Advocacy. Awareness. Acceptance. Inclusion.
Welcome!
I’m Naomi and alongside my husband, I have the privilege of raising two beautiful children, one of whom was diagnosed with autism in 2022, aged 3.
“Ready, steady, go!” is a phrase I heard countless times, in the early days of my son’s speech and language therapy sessions. His therapist would use it to build his listening, attention and anticipation skills and it wasn’t long till like the nursery rhymes he was obsessed with at the time, the phrase began to live rent free in my head. He would repeat it while he played with bubbles or prepared to launch himself from the window sill and it very quickly became a familiar chant in our household.
At the time of my son’s diagnosis, I knew very little about autism and in my naivety, thought it was something that could be cured, given we were fortunate to get a diagnosis relatively early. The more I learnt, the more I realised I couldn’t sprint my way to a finish line.
Ready Steady Autism is a personal blog where I intend to document parts of our journey as a family. It is my hope that in sharing our learnings and experiences as a family, I can build a community of mutual support.
Are you ready?!
